Play in development with CRESSIDA BROWN (Director of THE POLITICAL HISTORY OF SMACK AND CRACK).

CLOSE QUARTERS was part of 2020 Elevator Festival at Newcastle Live.

Our first night was due to be 17th March: the day COVID 19 shut all British Theatres.

Close Quarters – is based on interviews with ex-Irish POWs and English criminals. Set during the hunger strikes in 1981 it is the story both of a day in the life of an IRA unit as they ambush the British army and the short sharp career of a Manchester thief who joins the army and ends up on the other side of the ambush.

The aim of the piece is to draw parallels and highlight contrasts between the situations facing minorities in different parts of the UK during the revolutionary period of the early 1980s.
